The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of specific airbag components/ systems, by using supplier systems and applying theoretical, practical and innovative design solutions within the relevant Engineering discipline. They will lead, execute and support various program activities during the critical design and development phases of automotive airbag product. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, manufacturing, Test houses, etc.) to develop innovative, technical solutions.

Key Tasks - Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all cross carline airbag and seatbelt technical delivery.
  • Responsible for CAD package and installation of a supplier airbag deployment system.
  • Ensure all DVP’s, DFMEA’s and Test Programmes are correct to give a robust component delivery.
  • Responsible for all restraint/safety components CAD model release on Catia V5.
  • Manage analysis supplier software to validate and verify FEA simulation of selected system.
  • Responsible for the delivery of airbag components / systems to the defined Product Design Specification or Task Description.
  • Understand and generate technical documents, Bill of Material (BOM) to support manufacturing team.
  • Ability to take an analytical and systematic approach to create optimal solutions to problems.
  • Co-ordinate Change Management activities into the vehicle build.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplined engineering team.
  • Accountable for identifying and escalating issues and risks to the Functional Manager.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining specialist technical and business knowledge/capability.
  • Operates within an agreed vehicle feature/sub-system budget and timescale.
  • Excellent time management and self-organisational skills with the ability to plan and manage own workload.

Candidate Technical & Educational Requirements

  • Extensive Catia V5 experience
  • Microsoft Office i.e. outlook, work, excel, PowerPoint & Access
  • HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering subject (Desirable)

Candidate Competencies

  • An in-depth knowledge of automotive airbag and restraint systems
  • Experience of packaging of airbag and restraint systems utilising Catia V5
  • Experience of working in team environment in a technical role
  • Automotive tier 1 or OEM Experience
  • Change management experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Time management
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to progress chase, manage deadline expectations, report progress & flag areas of concern
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good numerical and IT skills for reporting
  • Commercial Awareness
  • Previous mentoring/training experience (Desirable)
  • Experience of managing small teams (Desirable)
